Special Projects & Programs
The library is one of the few spaces that impacts every student each year. Therefore it is a great location to connect with students through special events and programs. It is important to me to provide a variety of learning and experiences to encourage student growth.
MakerSpacesThe creation of a makerspace is important in order to facilitate wonder and innovation. It allows students to have experiences and failures in order to learn and grow.

Read Across AmericaStudents used Google Hangouts to read to elementary school students in Central New York and throughout the United States. This connected the importance of reading and spreading the love of reading with students.

Books 4 BarryStudents were inspired to help Barry Elementary (in Cortland) because they lost all their entire library. Students have collected at least 2000 books so far!

Students as TeachersStudents have become the teachers in student led workshops. Students propose workshops and they also teach them to other students. Some of the students have led workshops in 3-D Printing, Website Creation, Robotics, and Minecraft.

Holiday ShopDonations of a variety of items are available for students to purchase for their families for the Holiday Season. Very popular with students as they completely run the shop from cashiering to setting up the shop.

Summer Reading

InquiryUInquiryU is a program that is a collaboration between Syracuse University and Solvay to help train Graduate Teachers. This was a summer program with students in grades 4-8 to increase their literacy skills and limit the loss of knowledge during the summer.

Holiday StorytellingHoliday storytelling through the videoconferencing system is a great way to connect to with cities throughout New York, Texas. Readers shared a short holiday story with classes via Zoom or traditional video-conference equipment. Several students were participants and others read story to other schools.

Penny Drive for LeukemiaStudents donate spare change to raise money for Leukemia. The students enjoy donating to this organization.
